1966, Off Cape Reinga, New Zealand – New Zealand’s worst maritime disaster for 59 years, twenty-nine seamen perished when the collier Kaitawa broke up and sank in stormy condition.

1929, Brian Wenzel, in Adelaide, South Australia. He was a actor famous for his role as policeman Sergeant Frank Gilroy in the long running television series A Country Practice. As the fictitious township of Wandin Valley was located in New South Wales and the character Sergeant Gilroy therefore related to that State’s police force, Brian Wenzel became very popular with the New South Wales police due to this role and was at one time presented with a leather police jacket from former Police Commissioner John Avery. He died in 2024.
1941, Robert Allen Zimmerman alias Bob Dylan, in Duluth, Minnesota, U.S.A. He is a singer-songwriter and a major figure in music for five decades. A number of his songs such as Blowing In The Wind and The Times They Are A’Changing became anthems for civil rights and anti-war movements..
