1923, in Sydney, Australia’s first regular radio broadcasts began at 8 p.m. on station 2SB in Sydney. The programme consisted of classical and popular music, news, weather and stock exchange information.
1932, in Gundagai, New South Wales, Australia’s then-Prime Minister Joseph Lyons unveiled a pioneer memorial, The Dog On The Tuckerbox
1937, in Melbourne, a new express train, named The Spirit of Progress left Melbourne’s Spencer Street railway station, on its maiden trip to Albury. It set a high standard for speed and comfort, previously unknown anywhere in Australia with luxurious, air conditioned carriages which were finished in a distinctive blue and gold livery.
1963, in England, the BBC broadcast the first ever episode, of Doctor Who (starring William Hartnoll as the Doctor). This has become the world’s longest running science fiction drama.
1966, and Tasmania experienced its hottest November day on record to that date, with the temperature in the city climbing to 36 C, and at Hobart Airport, 38 C. In a foretaste of conditions to come just a few months later, conditions in the Lower Midlands, Bruny Island, Derwent Valley and Tasman Peninsula were described as “a day of unprecedented fire danger.”
2007, in the Antarctic Ocean south of Argentina, MS Explorer, a cruise liner carrying 154 people, sank, after hitting an iceberg near the South Shetland Islands. There were no fatalities

Fredrick John Marsden, was born in Liverpool, England, in 1940. He became the drummer for the 1960s pop group Gerry & the Pacemakers. He died in 2006.
Shane Gould was born in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1956. She is a former competition swimmer for Australia, and winner of three gold, a silver, and a bronze medal at the 1972 Olympic Games

Ocie Lee Smith alias O.C. Smith, died this day in 2009 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A., aged 69. He was a pop singer who had major hits in 1968 with Son of Hickory Holler’s Tramp and Little Green Apples.
Larry Hagman, died this day in 2012 in Dallas, Texas, U.S.A. . at the age of 81. He was a film and television actor, producer and director famous for his roles as oil tycoon J.R. Ewing in the 80s television soap opera Dallas, and also as Major Anthony Nelson in the 60s sitcom I Dream Of Jeannie.
