During this edition, two chart-busters each hour, from the Top 40 charts of this week in 1970 and a mix of recent tracks from indie artists and other easy-listening music which you won’t hear on mainstream radio.
► LOOKING at events on 26 October;
► On 26 October, 1938, the Australian National Airways airliner Kyeema crashed into Mt Dandenong in Victoria, with the loss of 18 lives.
A radio navigation beacon, which had been installed at Essendon airport a year previously, had not been operating because the Civil Aviation Department had still not completed necessary adjustments. Aviation experts claimed that if the beacon had been operating, the crash may not have occurred.
And in 1958, the wreckage of an Australian National Airways Avro 10 aircraft, VH-UMF Southern Cloud, was accidentally discovered in heavily timbered country in the Snowy Mountains by a carpenter engaged on the Snowy Mountains hydro-electric scheme.
The aircraft had gone missing in 1931, with the loss of 8 lives, during a flight from Sydney to Melbourne, in poor weather conditions. An extensive search at the time failed to locate it.

1928 – Melbourne, Victoria, Shirley Abicair, singer, musician, actress, and author. Died 27 September 2025, aged 94.
1941 – Wrexham, Wales, Charlie Landsborough, country and folk musician and singer songwriter. Turns 84.
► DIED THIS DAY…..
1966 – In London, England –Alma Cogan, pop singer of the 50s and early 60s, and the highest paid British female entertainer of her era. In the mid-1950s, she was the most consistently successful female singer in the U.K. Aged 34.
