During this edition, two chart-busters each hour, from the Top 40 charts of this week in 1979 and a mix of recent tracks from indie artists and other easy-listening music which you won’t hear on mainstream radio.

► LOOKING at events on 19 October;

► On 19 October, 1933, Pioneer aviator Charles Ulm arrived in Darwin, having flown to Australia from England in a then-record time of 6 days 18 hours.

► The following year, 1934, a de Havilland DH-86  airliner named Miss Hobart, owned by William Holyman Airways, disappeared over Bass Strait, near Wilsons Promontory, Victoria, during a flight from Launceston to Melbourne.   No wreckage was ever found, and there were no survivors amongst the 10 passengers and crew aboard.

► And in 1935, commercial radio station 7BU in Burnie was opened by the-then Australian Prime Minister, Joseph Lyons.  The station is still broadcasting today.

► In 1959, university students and fans clashed in a melee outside the ABC’s Hobart broadcasting studios in Elizabeth Street, when visiting pop star Fabian attempted to leave.  Later that evening, 6,000 fans attended two Fabian concerts held in the Hobart City Hall.
