BORN this day in 1939, in The Bronx, New York, U.S.A. – Dion Di Mucci, known professionally as Dion, singer-songwriter and one of the more popular rock and roll performers of the pre-Beatles era. He is best remembered for his 1961 singles, The Wanderer and Runaround Sue. Turns 86 today.

DIED this day in 1966 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. – Bobby Fuller, rock singer, songwriter and guitarist. He was found deceased inside a car, parked outside his apartment. There was no evidence of assault of any kind, so his death was ruled as accidental. Aged 23.

ON THIS DAY 1995, on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, the previously dormant Soufriere Hills volcano started a series of eruptions which continued until 2010. The island was devastated, with it’s capital, Plymouth, destroyed and numerous small villages abandoned.
Much of the population left the island and a large portion remains a declared exclusion zone.
