20 July 2023

A videoclip with latest from Victoria Eman, which has been topping the charts in Australia and the U.K.

Sung in the Dutch language, it was written to the memory of the Dutch Indies and Ambonese people who emigrated to the Netherlands in the 1950s because of the effect a war in Indonesia had on the Dutch East Indies colonies.

These people had pleasant memories of, and were homesick for, Indonesia and the island of Ambon. They longed for the old life, but most never returned.

Coming to my playlists. Please enjoy.

Sunday July 16….

The planet Jupiter was high in the Eastern sky as I left home before dawn, for a quiet trip to New Norfolk, traffic-wise.

It usually is at 5.30 on Sunday mornings.  Mine was the only New Norfolk-bound vehicle and I passed only 14 heading in the opposite direction.

New Norfolk is traditionally very quiet at that hour, with my footsteps as I walked from the car into the studio, seeming to be intrusive.

Music Unlimited, a pre-recorded programme from Canada, started soon after my arrival.  This is hosted by Ian MacPhee, a retired 50-year veteran of radio, with a little help from producer Paul Meagher and post-producer Ron Bickle (also 50-year radio veterans).

Ian and Paul regularly broadcast on Seaside FM, a community station which has a waterfront studio in Eastern Passage, near Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Ron is the Operations Manager of Tantramar Community Radio CFTA in Amherst, some 200 km distant.

But, back to this morning – after a few amendments to the day’s weather forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology’s website, I could then download that into the studio’s computer, enabling it to be displayed on one of the console screens.

A few more sundry tasks and I was able to listen in to the remainder of Music Unlimited.  After the 7.00 news, it was time for Edition 738 of Valley Sunrise.

Where Was That, Again?

I was listening to a community radio station located in a small town in Cornwall, England, a few evenings ago and was intrigued by their station identifiers. They continually stated that they were “in Cornwall, NEAR England.”

Now, Cornwall is the south-western-most portion of England and is not detached in any way and, to the best of my knowledge it is ruled by the Lords and Ladies in London.

It’s kinda like the State of Victoria (albeit known as “Mexico” by New South Welshmen) saying it’s “near Australia…”
