20 August 2023

Valley Sunrise, 20 August 2023

The programme began with a problem – the studio telephone wasn’t working, and with listener requests now an
indelible part of the playlist, that needed a quick resolution.

The immediate work-around is to direct listeners who wanted to make a request, to message me at my Facebook page,
Ray Hewitt Valley Sunrise .

Trying to solve the problem within the studio and keep the programme running was difficult, so I notified TYGA-FM’s
technician, Rozzie, who was able to sort it within 15 minutes.

This day would have marked the 100th birthday of singer Jim Reeves, if he was still with us.

Jim was at home with either country music, or smooth ballads, and July 31, 1964, was indeed a day when music died,
as the light plane he was flying crashed during stormy weather. Also killed was his manager, Dean Manuel.

Accordingly, I included two Jim Reeves recordings in today’s programme.

Hour 1:

Patti MacDonnell – Goodbye Sunshine (2023)
Mark Farrell – The Way I Am (2023)
James Lynas – Love Sunrise (2023)
Sherisse Lawrence – A Lesson I Don’t Want To Learn (2023)
Rodney Vincent – Some Sunday Morning
Will Glahe & His Orchestra – True Love

Tony Cook – Just Be Happy (2023)
Jim Reeves – Nobody’s Fool (Jim Reeves, born this day 1923, Galloway, Texas, U.S.A.)
Larry Mattson – Candlelight and Wine (2023)
Kevin Shegog – Wolverton Mountain (1962) (Kevin Shegog born this day 1933, Lower Turners Marsh, Tasmania)
Penny Davies & Roger Ilott – Hey Rain
Glenys Hewett – Fool On The Hill
James Last Orchestra – Vive L’Amour

Hour 2:

Dianne Lindsay – When Rivers Run (2023)
By Request: Sarah Brightman – Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again
Jim Reeves – Highway To Nowhere
Matt Monro – Born Free (1966)
By Request: Rob E G – Aloha Oe
Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis – The Money Song (1948) (Jerry Lewis died this day 2017, Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.)

By Request: Charley Pride – Kiss An Angel Good Morning
Jody Miller – He’s So Fine
By Request: Elvis Presley – Blue Hawaii

12 August 2023

Part of this day has been spent putting the finishing touches to my next Music Marathon, which will be between 6 a.m. and Midday on Friday, September 1,
when I sit-in for Bruce Lamb during the Breakky programme, which precedes my own shift.

Bruce won’t be available to do his programme for a few weeks later this month, so Nigel Jones and I will cover his shifts on alternate weeks.

As usual, in the next edition and in future, I cover topics as varied as some of the roadworks you are likely to encounter on the roads; planets which can be seen at night;
the day in history; and as of last Friday a new one, Railway Roundup.

The latter is a brief run-down on train operations by hard-working volunteers in Heritage railways throughout the State.

But back to the present, and on Music Unlimited at 6 a.m., a few of the artists you will hear are the Everly Brothers, Bobby Vee, Paul Simon.

In the Comfort Zone, Patti Page;   in the Country Patch, Ferlin Husky;  and in Album Corner,  John Denver.

In Valley Sunrise from 7.00 through to 9.00, easy listening with listener requests after 8.00.  Please call me on 6261 2000 during the programme.

DIGRESSING FOR A MOMENT……..

A treasured photograph which was discovered by sheer chance, about 20 years ago; it could easily have been lost back then, for all time.

My great-grandparents’ wedding photo, Launceston, Tasmania, now a little over 140 years ago.
