– Today’s photo: Another from Eaglehawk Neck, in Tasmania’s rugged south-east – the Tessellated Pavement, which is a rare geological formation resembling man-made tiles.
As with other attractions in the locality, this was eroded by wave action and weather over millennia. Unfortunately, the tide was a little high at the time of my visit. Photographer, Yours Truly.

1962 Longford, Tasmania – Top Australian racing driver Lex Davison crashed his Cooper car at 130 mph and walked uninjured from the shattered wreck. A strong crosswind on the “flying mile” was blamed for the crash, which occurred outside the Longford Hotel.
1965 Hobart recorded its hottest March day for 25 years, with a maximum of 94 degrees F (34.5 C).

Melbourne, Victoria – Forty guests collapsed at a garden party being held in the grounds of Government House on a day with a maximum temperature of 102.9 degrees F (39.4 C)
1970 Cape Kennedy, Florida, U.S.A. – The Pioneer 10 spacecraft was launched and ultimately became the first man-made object to leave the solar system.
1983 Compact Disc players and discs were released for the first time outside Japan
1998 The Galileo space probe returned data which indicated that Jupiter’s moon Europa has a liquid ocean under a thick crust of ice.
