1925 West Plains, Missouri, U.S.A. – Dick Van Dyke, actor, comedian, writer, and producer whose career spans 60 years. Turns 99.
1929 Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Christopher Plummer, theatre, film and television actor whose career spans over 50 years. He is perhaps best known for his role of Captain Georg Von Trapp in the musical The Sound of Music. Died 2021
1949 Manchester, England – Paula Wilcox, theatre and screen actress who played Chrissy Plummer in the TV sitcom Man About The House Turns 75.
EVENT:
1952 Launceston, Tasmania – The city’s last electric tram service ran, from the suburb of Newstead to the city
1963 Tullah, Tasmania – The opening of the Murchison Highway made road travel possible to this isolated mining town. Previously, the only means of travel to and from Tullah, was by means of a 2ft gauge railway, operated by a small steam locomotive named Wee Georgie Wood.
1964 Austins Ferry, Tasmania – A 13 year old Launceston boy received a fatal gunshot wound whilst competing in a yacht championship race. Police later questioned a 9 year old boy at a nearby house and took possession of a rifle with a telescopic sight.
