15 NOVEMBER IN HISTORY:

EVENTS:

1901  Throughout Australia, farmers were combating a plague of furry animals, with the zoological name of Oryctolagus Cuniculus, which had spread throughout the country since being released on the property of Thomas Austin at Barwon Park, near Geelong, Victoria.  (Oryctolagus Cuniculus = the rabbit)

1959  Perth, West Australia – A century-old dream became a reality when the State’s Governor, Sir Charles Gairdner, opened a bridge across the Swan River at The Narrows.  It was then the longest pre-stressed concrete bridge in Australia.

1978  Melbourne, Victoria – The Westgate Bridge opened for traffic.
