1908 – Fort Wayne, Indiana, U.S.A. – Jane Alice Peters alias Carole Lombard, actress known for her roles in comedy movies of the 1930s.  Died 1942.
1914 – Larvik, Norway – Thor Heyerdahl, adventurer notable for the 1947 Kon-Tiki expedition. Died 2002.
1947 – Clarendon Jamaica – Millicent Dolly May Small, alias Millie, the first international recording star from the Caribbean and  performer of the 1964 No 1 hit, My Boy Lollipop, which sold over 7 million copies worldwide.  Died 2020.

1978 – Darlinghurst, Sydney, New South Wales – Johnny O’Keefe, often referred to by his initials, “J.O.K.”, rock and roll singer whose career began in the 1950s.  In his 20-year career, O’Keefe released over 50 singles, 50 EPs and 100 albums. Aged 43.
1980 – London, England – Josephine Edwina Jaques alias Hattie Jacques, comedy actress. Aged 58.
1985 – Los Angeles, California U.S.A.  – Nelson Smock Riddle, Jr. alias Nelson Riddle, arranger, composer, bandleader and orchestrator. Aged 64.
2011 – Cairns, Queensland – Diane Cilento, Australian theatre and film actress and author.  (Aged 78)
2015 – Morehead City, North Carolina, U.S.A.  – Billy Joe Royal, Best known for his 1965 Top 10 hit Down In The Boondocks. Aged 73.
2015 – Burbank, California, U.S.A. – Kevin Corcoran former child actor, director and producer.  Aged 66.
2020 – Houston, Texas, U.S.A. – John Lester Nash, Jr. alias Johnny Nash, singer-songwriter, best known for his 1972 hit I Can See Clearly Now.  He was the first non-Jamaican to record reggae music in Kingston, Jamaica.  Aged 80.
2022 – Blanchard, Oklahoma U.S.A. – Myrna Joy Miller, alias Jody Miller, cross-over country/pop singer, whose best known hits were, He Walks Like A Man in 1964, and Queen Of The House, released 1965.  Aged 80.

EVENT:
1972 –
Faraday, Victoria – Six young girls and their teacher were kidnapped from a small country school near Castlemaine.  Whilst they were imprisoned in the back of a van, the 19-year-old teacher effected an escape and led the children to safety.   Two men were later charged, convicted and sentenced to lengthy terms of imprisonment.
