THIS DAY IN HISTORY:
1915 Canberra, Australian Capital Territory – The Federal Government first imposed Income Tax – as a wartime measure.
1926 Murulla, New South Wales – The State’s worst railway disaster to that date occurred when 12 good waggons broke away from a train and, with failed brakes, rolled downhill for some kilometres, ultimately colliding at high speed with the following Moree-Sydney overnight mail train. This caused a toll of 26 fatalities, and 38 injured.
1954 Scottsdale, Tasmania – Radio station 7DY, which was formerly based in Derby, commenced transmission from Scottsdale under the new callsign of 7SD.
