1962 Hobart, Tasmania – A 27 year old Yugoslav migrant, Anton Masnec, was sentenced to death after being found guilty of the murder of Helma Huxley, better known as Taffy The Bee Man near Longley, in the Huon Valley. The sentence was commuted.
1968 Hobart, Tasmania – The first Holden Monaro, the HK series, was released for sale in the State.
1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait, leading to conflict with coalition forces in the Gulf War.
1997 Thredbo, New South Wales – Stuart Diver was rescued from the wreckage of a ski lodge after it had been destroyed by a landslide which claimed 18 lives. He was the only survivor.
