Sunday July 16….

The planet Jupiter was high in the Eastern sky as I left home before dawn, for a quiet trip to New Norfolk, traffic-wise.

It usually is at 5.30 on Sunday mornings.  Mine was the only New Norfolk-bound vehicle and I passed only 14 heading in the opposite direction.

New Norfolk is traditionally very quiet at that hour, with my footsteps as I walked from the car into the studio, seeming to be intrusive.

Music Unlimited, a pre-recorded programme from Canada, started soon after my arrival.  This is hosted by Ian MacPhee, a retired 50-year veteran of radio, with a little help from producer Paul Meagher and post-producer Ron Bickle (also 50-year radio veterans).

Ian and Paul regularly broadcast on Seaside FM, a community station which has a waterfront studio in Eastern Passage, near Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Ron is the Operations Manager of Tantramar Community Radio CFTA in Amherst, some 200 km distant.

But, back to this morning – after a few amendments to the day’s weather forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology’s website, I could then download that into the studio’s computer, enabling it to be displayed on one of the console screens.

A few more sundry tasks and I was able to listen in to the remainder of Music Unlimited.  After the 7.00 news, it was time for Edition 738 of Valley Sunrise.
