Friday, June 16

By way of introduction, I am a retired Commonwealth public servant with a life-long interest in railways. I am a foundation member of the Derwent Valley Railway, which has been based in New Norfolk for 30 years.

I’ve also been involved with community radio now for over 16 years. For the first five years, I broadcast with Hobart FM, in the Sunday 6 a.m. ~ 8 a.m. time-slot.

In 2009, a new radio station (TYGA-FM) commenced broadcasting in New Norfolk. I promptly joined, and landed the Friday 6 a.m. ~ 9 a.m. Breakky programme.

Thus, for around two years, I could be heard on both stations – but not at the same time!

Eventually, for personal reasons, I left Hobart FM after hosting 274 editions of Sunday Sunrise. I then took on Sunday 6 a.m. ~ 9 a.m. Breakky on TYGA-FM, as well as continuing the Friday programme.

This continued through to 2016, when the opportunity arose to move my Friday shift from Breakky to Mornings, 9 a.m. ~ midday.
In 2017, I had the opportunity to welcome veteran broadcasters Ian MacPhee and Paul Meagher (the latter, I believe, unrelated to the Aussie actor, Ray Meagher) of Halifax, Canada, to 6 a.m. Sundays.

This was possible with the assistance of Ron Bickle, of community radio CFTA in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Around the same time, both my programmes evolved to include more content from independent recording artists, who are not “big-timers” but are often equally as talented as those who are.

This blog has been created with the assistance of my eldest son, Adrian, who is a skilled website technician. Please click on the "a" in the black bar at the very end of this blog, if you believe he may be able to assist you.

Please join me on Friday Morning Radio and Valley Sunrise (on Sundays), where the music matters.
